Abstract

ABSTRAK
Seni sebagai komunikasi ekspresif dapat digunakan sebagai media penyampaian
pesan, salah satunya berbentuk lukisan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap
makna yang terkandung dalam lima lukisan karya Yos Suprapto yang direncanakan
menjadi bagian dari pameran tunggal “Kebangkitan: Tanah Untuk Kedaulatan
Pangan” di Galeri Nasional Indonesia, namun dibatalkan penyelenggaraannya pada
tahun 2024. Lima lukisan yang diteliti yaitu, Konoha I, Konoha II, Niscaya, 2019,
dan Makan Malam, lima lukisan ini dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif
dengan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure serta konsep intertekstualitasitas. Temuan
makna didalamnya dianalisis kembali menggunakan Teori Produksi Ruang
Lefebvre yang kemudian diperkaya melalui gagasam Everyday Resistance dari
James C. Scott. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima lukisan tersebut
memuat kritik visual terhadap relasi kuasa dalam lanskap sosial-politik Indonesia
kontemporer, khususnya yang berkaitan dengan posisi petani dan narasi
pembangunan. Penurunan karya-karya tersebut dari ruang pamer GNI menjadi
indikator penting dalam memahami ulang peran institusi seni rupa negara sebagai
arena produksi dan kontrol makna.

ABSTRACT
Art is one of the expressive forms of communication that can serve as a medium for
conveying messages, one of which is through painting. This study aims to uncover
the meanings embedded in five paintings by Yos Suprapto, which were initially
planned to be part of a solo exhibition titled "Kebangkitan: Tanah Untuk
Kedaulatan Pangan" (Awakening: Land for Food Sovereignty) at the National
Gallery of Indonesia, but whose presentation was cancelled in 2024. The five
paintings analyzed in this study are Konoha I, Konoha II, Niscaya, 2019, and Makan
Malam is examined using a qualitative approach through Ferdinand de Saussure’s
semiotics and the concept of intertextuality. The meanings revealed are further
analyzed using Henri Lefebvre’s Theory of the Production of Space and enriched
by James C. Scott’s notion of Everyday Resistance. The findings show that these
paintings contain visual critiques of power relations in Indonesia’s contemporary
socio-political landscape, particularly concerning the position of farmers and the
narrative of development. The withdrawal of these works from the National
Gallery's exhibition space serves as a significant indicator in reexamining the role
of state art institutions as arenas for the production and control of meaning.
