Abstract

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk komunikasi yang dilakukan
guru dalam mendukung interaksi sosial murid tunanetra di SLB Negeri Sukoharjo.
Komunikasi antara guru dan murid tunanetra merupakan aspek penting dalam
proses pembelajaran sekaligus pengembangan kemampuan sosial, mengingat
keterbatasan visual yang dimiliki menuntut pendekatan komunikasi yang lebih
bermakna dan interpersonal. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif
dengan teori utama interaksi simbolik dari George Herbert Mead dan Herbert
Blumer, yang memandang interaksi sosial sebagai proses pertukaran makna melalui
simbol. Selain itu, digunakan pula konsep komunikasi interpersonal dari Joseph
DeVito yang menekankan pentingnya empati, keterbukaan, dukungan emosional,
dan umpan balik dalam menciptakan komunikasi yang efektif. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan interpersonal yang diterapkan guru—seperti
penggunaan sentuhan, nada suara yang lembut, serta pendekatan personal—
memiliki peran besar dalam membangun kepercayaan diri murid serta
meningkatkan kualitas interaksi sosial mereka. Komunikasi guru yang efektif tidak
hanya menyampaikan materi, tetapi juga membangun koneksi emosional yang
memperkuat partisipasi murid tunanetra dalam lingkungan sekolah.

ABSTRACT
This study aims to describe the forms of communication used by teachers in
supporting the social interaction of visually impaired students at SLB Negeri
Sukoharjo. Communication between teachers and visually impaired students plays
a crucial role in both the learning process and the development of social skills,
given that their visual limitations require more meaningful and interpersonal
communication approaches. This research employs a qualitative approach, using
the symbolic interaction theory by George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer,
which views social interaction as a process of meaning-making through symbols.
Additionally, Joseph DeVito’s concept of interpersonal communication is applied,
emphasizing the importance of empathy, openness, emotional support, and
feedback in building effective communication. The findings reveal that teachers'
interpersonal approaches—such as using touch, gentle tone of voice, and personal
engagement—significantly contribute to building students' confidence and
enhancing the quality of their social interactions. Effective teacher communication
not only conveys instructional content but also fosters emotional connections that
strengthen the students’ participation in the school environment.participation of
