ABSTRAK
Bucket Wheel Excavator merupakan alat berat yang digunakan dalam dunia
pertambangan. Komponen utama alat ini yaitu sebuah bucket dimana pada setiap ujungnya
dipasangkan beberapa gigi bucket yang digunakan untuk menggali atau mengeruk material
yang terbuat dari baja AISI 4140. Penggunaan gigi bucket yang terus-menerus dapat
menyebabkan material mengalami penurunan kualitas serta sifat mekanik seperti kekerasan
dan keausan. Upaya mencegah hal tersebut dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode pack
carbonitriding dimana proses ini memanfaatkan difusi dari nitrogen dan karbon ke lapisan
permukaan material. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui variasi komposisi media
pupuk urea dan arang bioaktif yang digunakan dalam proses pack carbonitriding terhadap
kekerasan, keausan dan metalografi SEM baja AISI 4140.
Penelitian ini menggunakan spesimen baja AISI 4140 yang kemudian dibentuk
dengan ukuran P x L x T sebesar 40 mm x 20 mm x 10 mm. Media pack carbonitriding
pada penelitian ini digunakan 3 variasi komposisi pupuk urea dan arang bioaktif
diantaranya yakni 60%C : 40%N (w/w%); 50%C : 50%N (w/w%) dan 40%C : 60%N
(w/w%). Kemudian spesimen dipanaskan hingga temperatur 950°C lalu dilakukan
penahanan temperatur selama 3 jam. Setelah dilakukan penahanan temperatur, spesimen
langsung dilakukan quenching pada media pendingin oli SAE 40 kemudian dibersihkan.
Berdasarkan hasil pengujian kekerasan menunjukkan bahwa spesimen A 60%C :
40%N (w/w%) memiliki nilai rata-rata kekerasan tertinggi dibandingkan spesimen lainnya
yakni sebesar 723,37 HVN. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian keausan yang telah dilakukan,
diketahui bahwa nilai laju keausan terendah terdapat pada spesimen A 60%C : 40%N
(w/w%) yakni sebesar 1.55 X 10-7 mm2/kg. Pada pengamatan struktur mikro SEM diperoleh
ketebalan rata-rata lapisan difusi sebesar 39,87 μm dan kandungan unsur karbon dengan
komposisi persen massa sebesar 16,15%.

ABSTRACT
Bucket Wheel Excavator is heavy equipment used in the world of minning.
The main component of this tool is a bucket where several bucket teeth are attached
to each end which are used to dig or dredge materials made of AISI 4140 steel.
Continous use of bucket teeth can cause the material to experience a decrease in
quality and mechanical properties such as hardness and weal. The effort to prevent
this in this study uses the pack carbonitriding method where this process utilizes
the diffusion of nitrogen and carbon into the surface layer material. This study aims
to determine variations in the composition of urea fertilizer and bioactive charcoal
media used in the pack carbonitriding process on hardness, wear, and SEM
metallography of AISI 4140 steel.
The study used specimen AISI 4140 steel which formed with a size L x W x
H of 40 mm x 20 mm x 10 mm. The pack carbonitriding media in this study used 3
variations composition of urea fertilized and bioactive charcoal, including 60% C
: 40% N (w/w%); 50% C : 50% N (w/w%); 40% C : 60% N (w/w%). Then the
specimen was heated to a temperature of 950°C and then held for 3 hours. After holding
the temperature, the specimens were immediately quenched in the SAE 40 oil and the
cleaned.
Based on the results of the hardness test, it shown that specimen A 60% C :
40% N (w/w%) had the highest average hardness value compared to other
specimens, namely 723,37 HVN. Based on the results of the wear tests that have
been carried out, it is known that the lowest weal level is found in spesimen A 60%
C : 40% N (w/w%) which is 1.55 X 10-7 mm2/kg. In the observation of the SEM
microstructure, the average thickness of the diffusion layer was 39,87 μm and the
content of carbon elements with mass percent composition of 16,15 %.
