Abstract
Coal mining activities generate a large amount of waste material
that must be managed safely and stably. One of the common
management methods is the construction of disposal slopes. However, a
significant challenge arises due to the mining site being dominated by
swampy areas, covering approximately 30%–40%, which require proper
and careful treatment. One method of managing soft or swampy
materials is by constructing Bundwalls on Mud Cells located in disposal
areas, utilizing available waste materials from the mining site. This study
aims to analyze the influence of varying blending ratios of Bundwall
Mud Cell materials (a mixture of clay, subsoil, and sand) on the stability
of disposal slopes at PT. MIFA Bersaudara's mining area, and to
determine the optimal blending composition.
The methodology includes direct shear tests to determine
geotechnical parameters such as cohesion (c) and internal friction angle
(φ) from 20 different blending ratio samples. The test results indicate that
blending ratios dominated by clay tend to have higher cohesion values,
while those dominated by sand show lower cohesion but higher internal
friction angles. Slope stability analysis was conducted using
geotechnical software Slide 6.0 based on the Limit Equilibrium Method
(LEM), considering both static and dynamic loading conditions. The
highest safety factor (SF) was obtained from certain blending ratios that
produced the optimum shear strength parameters. Therefore, selecting
the appropriate blending composition for Bundwall Mud Cells
significantly affects the stability of the disposal slope and should be a
key consideration in sustainable mine design.
