Abstract

Pepper (Piper nigrum L.) is a superior plantation commodity with high economic
value and the potential to increase foreign exchange. Pepper commodities need to
be rejuvenated, and control measures and efforts must be made to mitigate pests
comprehensively. Differences in cultivation methods are thought to affect the
abundance of arthropods. This study was conducted in the pepper field of Tribuana,
Punggelan, Banjarnegara, Central Java, to determine the abundance, diversity
index, and role of insects living in three peppers with different cultivation histories.
Sampling using purposive sampling technique for 60 days using four traps, namely
a light trap, sweep net, pitfall trap, and sticky trap, placed at 3 sample points in each
field. Insects found in field 1 were 743 individuals from 52 genus, Field 2 were
2524 individuals from 47 genus, field 3 were 813 individuals from 44 genus. Field
1 showed good stability compared to fields 2 and 3. The pest insect most commonly
found in the three pepper fields was the genus Agromyza. The number of pests in
field 2 (1,951 individuals) is more than in fields 1 ( 388 individuals) and 2 (488
individuals), while predators in field 2 are more, but the difference is not much
different from fields 1 and 2. Light traps had the least number of genus compared
to other traps, with a mean of 9 genus found.
