Perusahaan pertambangan khususnya PT Semesta Centramas (SCM)
2015 sebesar 46,297 ton/ha, tahun 2016 sebesar 32,262 ton/ha, tahun 2019 sebesar
16,250 ton/ha, tahun 2021 sebesar 15,694 ton/ha, tahun 2022 sebesar 50,662 ton/ha.

REVEGETATION LAND MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES BASED ON
ANALYSIS OF CARBON STORAGE POTENTIAL IN VEGETATION AND
SOIL AT RECLAMATION AREA OF PT SCM BALANGAN COAL

ABSTRACT
The mining company, particularly PT Semesta Centramas (SCM) Balangan
Coal, contributes to the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, primarily
through land-clearing activities and the use of fossil fuels, which result in climate
change. The clearing of land and removal of vegetation at PT SCM Balangan Coal
has reduced the land's functionality and its carbon storage capacity, necessitating
the restoration of the land through reclamation efforts. Reclaimed land plays a
crucial role in carbon storage and CO2 absorption. Therefore, it is important to
recommend land management techniques based on the calculation of carbon storage
potential, which is influenced by tree diameter, wood density, and soil conditions.
This study aims to analyze carbon storage in both vegetation and soil, examine the
relationship between soil conditions and carbon storage, and recommend land
management techniques for revegetation to enhance carbon storage and CO2
absorption.
The research employs a quantitative method using purposive sampling,
initiated with field surveys. Carbon storage in vegetation is measured using a non-
destructive method with measurement plots adhering to SNI 7724:2011 standards,
consisting of tree plots measuring 20 x 20 meters, pole plots of 10 x 10 meters,
sapling plots of 5 x 5 meters, and seedling plots of 2 x 2 meters. Soil samples are
collected using both disturbed and undisturbed methods. The measurement of carbon
storage in both vegetation and soil, along with soil sample testing, is analyzed using
descriptive analysis, simple linear regression analysis, and the Pearson correlation
method.
The study's results indicate that the carbon storage potential in vegetation on
reclaimed land in 2015 was 24.510 tons/ha, in 2016 was 24.172 tons/ha, in 2019 was
18.126 tons/ha, in 2021 was 3.396 tons/ha, and in 2022 was 3.350 tons/ha. Soil
carbon content on reclaimed land in 2015 was 46.297 tons/ha, in 2016 was 32.262
tons/ha, in 2019 was 16.250 tons/ha, in 2021 was 15.694 tons/ha, and in 2022 was
50.662 tons/ha. Soil condition tests revealed a strong correlation between soil
conditions (pH, organic carbon, organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus,
total potassium, and cation exchange capacity) and soil carbon storage. Land
management techniques, including optimal spacing, selecting pioneer and local plant
species, and institutional approaches, are necessary to enhance carbon storage on
reclaimed land.
