THE EFFECT OF DELAYING DRYING AND TYPES OF STORAGE
PACKAGING SEEDS ON VIABILITY, VIGOR AND VEGETATIVE
GROWTH MUNG BEANS (Vigna radiata L.)

ABSTRACT
Low mung bean production is caused by several factors, one of which is the use of
quality seeds. Unfavorable weather causes the drying of mung bean seeds to be
delayed, thereby reducing the quality of the seeds. Quality reduction is also influenced
by the type of storage packaging. The research aims to determine the effect of delaying
drying and the type of packaging for storing mung bean seeds. Research in the
laboratory used a completely randomized design (CRD) and research in the field used
a completely randomized block design (CRBD) with two factors. The first factor drying
delay; (P0) without delay, (P1) one day delay, (P2) two days delay, and (P3) three days
delay. Second factor is type of storage packaging; glass bottle (K1), plastic bags (K2),
and bagor sacks (K3). Data analysis used Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and to
determine the effect of the treatment combination, it was tested with DMRT at a level
of 5%. The research results showed that there was no interaction between the length of
drought and the type of packaging on viability, vigor and vegetative growth. Delaying
drying for 3 days (P3) was able to maintain maximum growth potential, plant height of
20 DAP, and stem diameter of 20 DAP. Plastic bag packaging is able to maintain air
content, seed growth speed, seed growth uniformity, electrical conductivity, and plant
height of 20 DAP.
