Abstract
This presentation underlined sustainable supply chain management (SCM) that is still focused on industrial interests, not yet human welfare and planetary protection. This presentation also criticized the literature that pays more attention to issues related to the environment than social aspects. Another criticism is that companies are more motivated to implement Industry 4.0 to increase competitiveness in terms of performance and productivity, not sustainability and social responsibility. Based on this background, the social-circular economy (SCE) is proposed. The SCE can be defined as a method to manage resource circularity, efficiency, and optimization that advocates using waste as resources to generate economic and social value. The proposed SCE model is inspired by the community-based flow of used household items or waste in Indonesia, which are taken to villages with many poor people, orphanages, and people with disabilities. SCE can be realized by a supply chain of reusable products or waste that the community manages voluntarily. The goods that have a sale value, the proceeds of the sale are used for diverting for other purposes, such as helping with education operations and social funds. Meanwhile, reusable products can be distributed directly to people in need. Utilizing information systems to make material flow in SCE more efficient and effective is recommended.
