Abstract
Earthquake and tsunami have struck Japan in 2011, has caused damage to the nuclear reactors at the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) Fukushima Daiichi and cause the release of radioactive substances into the air and soil. The Fukushima disaster triggered the birth of the movement of people who oppose the operation of nuclear reactors in Japan. Through the social movements "Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants", the community united into the nationwide anti-nuclear movement. This thesis approaches The New Social Movements theory to explain how social movements "Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants" in rejecting the re-activation of nuclear power in Japan after the Fukushima disaster in 2011-2015. The purpose of writing this thesis to explain how struggle of social movements "Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants" in rejecting the re-activation of nuclear power in Japan. The forms of struggle of the "Goodbye to Nuclear Power Plants" movement is shown through mass action, action through the arts, action through the medium of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), action which shows the introduction of the culture, identity and alternative lifestyles, as well as action by organizing a national petition.
