Abstract

The dynamic behaviors of pure capacity system for 2 liquid tanks in series have been studied experimentally. Two square tanks were designed and arranged in series for investigation in laboratory. The 1st tank (Tank-1) has an input stream, stream-i, (water stream with its volumetric rate of fi(t) [cm3/min]). The liquid of Tank-1 was then be pumped to the 2nd tank (Tank-2) with its volumetric rate of f1(t) [cm3/min]. The volumetric rate of f1(t) can be adjusted by changing the voltage of pump, m(t). Whereas the output volumetric rate of Tank-2 f2(t) was affected by the liquid level in Tank-2. In this study, the mass disturbance load has been made based on step decrease and increase. Those disturbances included the changes of the volumetric rate of water stream fi(t) and of the voltage of pump m(t). The dynamic behavior of the pure capacity system has been explored. As can be seen from our investigation, the liquid level dynamic in both of Tank-1 and Tank-2 were unstable. The liquid level responses in Tank-1 and Tank-2 were typical with ramp response. Furthermore, the open loop liquid dynamic simulation was also done by using Scilab software, and its simulation results were compared with those results from laboratory. The developed mathematical model of the pure capacity system has been solved numerically. According to our experiment in laboratory and our dynamic simulation, the trends of simulation results were quite similar with those in our experiment results.
