Abstract

Study area is located at between Kabupaten Kulon Progo, Special Region of Yogyakarta Province and Kabupaten Purworejo distinct, Central Java Province, with geography coordinates of 110°00'00" BT - 110°15'02" BT and 7°35'00" LS - 7°50'30" LS. This area has 1024 km2 (32 km x 32 km) wide. Geology of the study area is dominated by Late Oligocene to Pliocene volcanic rocks and limestones. Stratigraphically, this area is consisting of some litologic formations, which from the oldest to the youngest are Nanggulan Formation, Kaligesing / Dukuh Formation, Jonggrangan Formation, Sentolo Formation, and Alluvial Deposits. Some intrusions of diorite, andesite, and dacite are found at the Kaligesing/Dukuh Formation. Alteration and mineralization processes have happened within the host rock of Kaligesing / Dukuh Formation, with the diorite, andesite, and dacite intrusions as the heat sources. Silicification of quartz veins at diorite, andesite, and dacite Plampang, Sangon and Bagelen were accompanied by gold, galena, sphalerite, pyrite, chalcopyrite, molybdenite, covelit, barite, magnetite and hematite mineralisations. Prophylitisation indications were found at andesite, diorite and dacite. Limonitisation and kaolinisation were found at Plampang River. Gold mineralisations of Plampang area were association by barites and electrums of gold. Quartz veins at the study area could be classified into two general patterns, which are NE-SW and E-W directions. Mineralisation processes of this area occurred in gold-copper system of epithermal type. Keywords : alteration, host rock, heat sources, prophylititation, electrum, quatz veins
