Abstract
Keinginan untuk mencari dan menggunakan media, termasuk media elektronik
(internet) disebabkan oleh adanya dorongan dari diri seseorang untuk memilih
bentuk media yang mereka rasa dapat memenuhi kebutuhannya. Setelah memilih
bentuk media yang sesuai dengan keinginannya, maka akan terjadi proses
penggunaan media. Salah satu alternatif yang ada didalam media adalah adanya
citizen journalism. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, maka penelitian bertujuan untuk
mengetahui motif mahasiswa dalam mengkonsumsi berita-berita di
citizen6.liputan6.com, mengetahui kepuasan mahasiswa terhadap citizen journalism
di citizen6.liputan6.com. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif dan subjek
penelitiannya adalah mahasiswa Program Studi Komunikasi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial
Dan Politik Universitas Pembangunan Nasional ”Veteran” Yogyakarta dengan
jumlah 311 mahasiswa. Gambaran kepuasan responden pada motif informasi
menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden tidak puas pada pengetahuan mengenai
peristiwa dan kondisi lingkungan (Yogyakarta) serta untuk memperoleh
pengetahuan baru. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa meskipun mereka banyak yang
menjawab setuju pada saat setelah membaca citizen6.liputan6.com akan tetapi
ternyata masih lebih tinggi harapannya daripada apa yang diperolehnya. Sedangkan
motif informasi berdasarkan perkembangan informasi seputar Indonesia dan
memperoleh informasi yang belum didapat dari media lain dari
citizen6.liputan6.com telah mampu membuat puas responden. Kepuasan responden
pada motif identitas personal menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden tidak puas
pada pencarian informasi untuk bahan pertimbangan (51,1%). Pada indikator
pencarian informasi sesuai keinginan ternyata memiliki tingkat kepuasan mayoritas
tidak puas (46,6%). Sedangkan pada indikator pencarian inspirasi untuk pemecahan
masalah ternyata banyak responden merasa puas (47,6%). Kepuasan responden pada
motif interaksi sosial menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden merasa puas baik
pada rasa empati terhadap permasalahan-permasalahan yang dihadapi (53,7%),
kepemilikan bahan pembicaraan atau diskusi dengan orang lain (51,1%) dan
mendapatkan informasi supaya memperoleh penghargaan dari orang lain (49,8%).
Secara umum dapat disimpulkan bahwa responden telah merasa puas dengan citizen
journalism di citizen6.liputan6.com walaupun masih ada beberapa indikator dari
motif informasi dan motif identitas personal yang belum dapat memenuhi harapan
dari pemirsa atau pembaca.
Desirability to looking for and using media included to electronic media (internet) is
caused by self-support of anyone in order to selecting a media type that they felt able
to filling their needs. After selecting appropriate media type with their desirability,
then it will occurs the media utilization process. One of alternative that exist in
media is citizen journalism. Based on this matter, this research is purposed to
understanding the student’s motive in order to consuming news in
citizen6.liputan6.com, understanding the student’s satisfaction toward citizen
journalism in citizen6.liputan6.com. This research type is quantitative and the
research subject is the students of Communication Program, Social and Politic
Science Faculty at Universitas Pembanguinan Nasional “VETERAN” Yogyakarta
with number 311 students. The presentation of respondent’s satisfaction on
information motive was presenting that majority from respondents is unsatisfied to
the knowledge in some instances and environment condition (Yogyakarta) and to
gaining new knowledge. This is presenting that although most of them were
answering agree when reading citizen6.liputan6.com but in fact, their importance is
higher than what they obtained. While the information motive based on information
development in around Indonesia and gaining information that cannot obtained from
the others media from citizen6.liputan6.com has able to making satisfaction for
respondent. The respondent’s satisfaction on the personal identity motive has
presenting that most of respondent is unsatisfied to the information search for
consideration object (51,1%). On the information search indicator that appropriate in
fact it has satisfaction level majority were unsatisfied (46,6%) . while on the
inspiration search indicator for problem solving, the respondent is satisfied (47,6%).
The respondent’s satisfaction on social interaction motive is presenting hat majority
of respondent will satisfied on the empathy toward the problem what they
experienced (53,7%), the conversation subject ownership or discussion with the
others (51,1%) and gaining information for gaining reward from the others (49,8%).
Generally, it can concluded that the respondent has been satisfied with citizen
journalism at citizen6.liputan6.com although there are some indicators from
information motive and personal identity motive still infilling the expectation of
audients or readers.
