Abstract

The research is located in Sungai Raya District, Hulu Sungai Selatan Regency, South Kalimantan Province.
Geological setting of Idamanggala area located in Barito Basin included in Warukin Formation EarlyMiddle
Miocene.

to 0.58. Coal rank classification : sub-bituminous coal. Coal Bed Methane (GMB) is a natural gas
(hydrocarbons) which methane gas as its main component. The methane gas is formed naturally in the coal’s
forming process, in a state trapped and adsorbed in maceral vitrinite coal, so the depth of the coal seam is
one of the important factor of coal bed methane field development, the deeper coal seams, the adsorbed gas
in the coal is larger. The average composition of Idamanggala’s coal maceral for vitrinite maceral group is
83.64% (vol.). Vitrinite content is relatively high in coal of Idamanggala that included in kerogen type III as
an identifier of humic organic matter and derived from the woody tissue of higher plants (Angiosperm). The
vitrinite is maceral forming high methane (gas prone). Average quality (proximate test) coal of Formation
Warukin: Calories 5966 kcal / kg (adb), sulfur 0.24% (adb); ash 3.92% (adb); inherent moisture 13.81%
(adb); volatile matter 36.57% (adb); fixed carbon 44.02% (adb), Total Moisture 36.31% (Ar); relative
density 1.28. Idamanggala’s coal methane gas content are about 5.77 to 6.72 m3 / ton, resources (gas in
place) coal bed methane of Idamanggala with 90% gas saturation is 0.000183 tcf - 0.00072 tcf at 50-150
meters of depth. Total resources of Idamanggala’s coal methane gas is 0.002 tcf.
