WELL LOGGING DI FORMASI BALIKPAPAN DAN KAMPUNGBARU,
KEC. LOA JANAN, KAB. KUTAI KARTANEGARA

Lokasi penelitian berada di kontak antara Formasi Kampungbaru dan
Formasi Balikpapan. Secara geologi daerah ini merupakan bagian cekungan dari
Cekungan Kutai yang telah dikenal luas sebagai salah satu cekungan yang memiliki
potensi minyak bumi dan batubara. Kedua formasi pembawa batubara tersebut
berada di Antiklin Palaran. Perlu dilakukan penelitian terhadap pengaruh struktur
pada kualitas batubara pada kedua formasi tersebut menggunakan data geofisika
well logging yang didukung oleh data uji laboratorium untuk menentukan
pemanfaatan dan keekonomian lapisan batubara pada daerah penelitian.
Log gamma ray dan log densitas merupakan log yang sering digunakan
dalam eksplorasi batubara juga memiliki resolusi yang tinggi yaitu log gamma ray
0,5 dan log densitas 0,15 meter. Nilai log gamma ray dan log densitas berhubungan
dengan parameter kualitas lapisan batubara. Kualitas lapisan batubara merupakan
salah satu parameter penting dipahami karena akan menentukan apakah lapisan
batubara dapat digunakan secara komersial. Selain data geofisika well logging,
penelitian ini juga didukung oleh data uji laboratorium berupa data calorific value,
ash content, total moisture dan total sulfur.
Formasi Balikpapan memiliki kualitas lebih tinggi dibandingkan Formasi
Balikpapan. range nilai lapisan batubara di Formasi Kampungbaru, yaitu: vshale
0,02 - 0, 117165%, densitas 1,082627 – 1,1675 gr/c, calorific value 4383,5 – 5414
kkal/kg, ash content 2,8 – 21,79%, total moisture 27,06 – 48,43% dan total sulfur
0, 35 – 0,917%. Sedangkan Formasi Balikpapan memiliki kualitas lapisan batubara
yang lebih tinggi dengan range nilai vshale 0,009 - 0, 065%, densitas 1,13125 – 1,
20517 gr/c, calorific value 513,45 – 569.729 kkal/kg, ash content 1.89 – 10,35%,
total moisture 25.32 – 43,55% dan total sulfur 0,672 – 2,2%.

The research location is in contact between the Kampungbaru Formation
and the Balikpapan Formation. The geology of this area is part of the broad basin
of the Kutai Basin which is widely known as one of the basins that has potential for
oil and coal. The two coal-bearing formations are located in the Palaran Anticline.
It is necessary to conduct research on the influence of structure on coal quality in
both formations using well logging geophysical data supported by laboratory test
data to determine the utilization and economics of coal seams in the research area.
Gamma ray logs and density logs are logs that are often used in coal
exploration and also have high resolution, namely gamma ray logs of 0.5 and
density logs of 0.15 meters. The value of the gamma ray log and density log are
related to the parameters of the coal seam quality. The quality of the coal seam is
one of the important parameters to understand because it will determine whether
the coal seam can be used commercially. In addition to well logging geophysical
data, this research is also supported by laboratory test data in the form of calorific
value, ash content, total moisture and total sulfur data.
The Balikpapan Formation has a higher quality than the Balikpapan
Formation. range of coal seam values in the Kampungbaru Formation, namely:
vshale 0.02 - 0, 117165%, density 1.082627 - 1.1675 gr/c, calorific value 4383.5 –
5414 kcal/kg, ash content 2.8 – 21 .79%, total water content 27.06 – 48.43% and
total sulfur 0.35 – 0.917%. While the Balikpapan Formation has higher coal quality
with a value range of 0.009 - 0.065% vshale, density 1.13125 - 1. 20517 gr/c,
calorific value 513.45 - 569.729 kcal/kg, ash content 1.89 - 10, 35 %, total water
content is 25.32 – 43.55% and total sulfur is 0.672 – 2.2%.
