Abstract

ABSTRAK
Ravio Patra, peneliti kebijakan publik ditangkap polisi pada 22 April 2020 atas
dugaan penyebaran berita provokasi melalui akun WhatsApp miliknya. Kabar
penangkapan Ravio Patra mengejutkan masyarakat Indonesia. Pasalnya, sebelum
ditangkap, WhatsApp milik Ravio Patra diretas oleh oknum tak dikenal dan
digunakan untuk menyebarkan pesan provokasi. Kasus ini semakin rumit saat proses
penyidikan berlangsung dan lembaga advokasi Ravio Patra melontarkan beberapa
bentuk kejanggalan proses hukum yang tengah dijalani Ravio Patra. Media online
Tirto.id merupakan salah satu media yang gencar memberitakan kasus ini. Penelitian
ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui motif ideologi Tirto.id dalam memberitakan
perkembangan kasus tersebut. Metodologi yang digunakan adalah analisis wacana
kritis dan pendekatan paradigma kritis. Metode penelitiannya menggunakan analisis
wacana kritis model Norman Fairclough. Fairclough memfokuskan analisisnya
dengan melihat bahasa sebagai sebuah tindakan. Kemudian membagi proses kajian
dalam tiga dimensi amtara lain teks, discourse practice, dan sociocultural practice.
Penelitian ini menggunakan Teori Ekonomi Politik Media Vincent Mosco yang
dibagi menjadi tiga unsur antara lain komodifikasi, spasialisasi, dan strukturasi. Teori
tersebut digunakan untuk menjelaskan kaitan pemberitaan Tirto.id dengan unsur
ekonomi dan politik. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Tirto.id memposisikan Ravio
Patra sebagai kritikus korban peretasan WhatsApp dan penangkapan paksa,
sedangkan polisi sebagai pelaku penangkapan paksa, penyidik, dan yang melakukan
proses hukum tidak sesuai prosedur. Teks berita Tirto.id lebih didominasi oleh
informasi pihak Ravio Patra dan lembaga advokasinya. Motif ideologi Tirto.id dalam
pemberitaan kasus ini difokuskan untuk edukasi informasi kepada publik dan
mendukung pengusutan kasus sampai tuntas. Motif tersebut sejalan dengan bentuk
kepemilikan Tirto.id yang tidak berafiliasi dengan kepentingan politik manapun
(independen).

ABSTRACT
Ravio Patra, a public policy researcher was arrested by the police on April 22, 2020
for allegedly spreading provocative news through his WhatsApp account. The news of
Ravio Patra's arrest shocked the Indonesian people. The reason is, before being
arrested, Ravio Patra's WhatsApp was hacked by unknown persons and used to
spread provocation messages. This case became more complicated when the
investigation process took place and Ravio Patra's advocacy agency pointed out
several irregularities in the legal process that Ravio Patra was undergoing. The
online media Tirto.id is one of the media that intensively reports on this case. This
study aims to determine the ideological motives of Tirto.id in reporting the
development of the case. The methodology used is critical discourse analysis and
critical paradigm approach. The research method uses a critical discourse analysis
model by Norman Fairclough. Fairclough focuses his analysis on seeing language as
an action. Then divide the study process into three dimensions, including text,
discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. This study uses Vincent Mosco's
Media Political Economy Theory which is divided into three elements, namely
commodification, spatialization, and structuration. This theory is used to explain the
relationship between Tirto.id's news coverage and economic and political elements.
This research shows that Tirto.id positions Ravio Patra as a critic of the victim of
WhatsApp hacking and forced arrests, while the police are the perpetrators of forced
arrests, investigators, and those who carry out legal processes that are not in
accordance with procedures. The news text of Tirto.id is dominated by information
from Ravio Patra and his advocacy institutions. Tirto.id's ideological motive in
reporting this case is focused on educating the public on information and supporting
the investigation of the case to completion. This motive is in line with the form of
ownership of Tirto.id which is not affiliated with any political interests (independent).
