Abstract

The open loop experiment of fluid flow dynamic in pipe has been successfully done in laboratory. Water was used as a fluid, and its volumetric rate of fo(t) [L/s] was adjusted by changing the pump voltage of vpu(t) [volt].The open loop experiment resulted the steady state parameters; they were liquid volumetric rate (f_o ) ̅= 0.25 [L/s], pump voltage v ̅_pu= 118 [volt]. This study has proposed the liquid flow control configuration by manipulating the pump voltage. The PI control was implemented to control the flow and Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion was chosen for tuning the PI control parameters. The closed loop mathematical model was solved numerically with the explicit Euler method. The tuning parameters resulted in this research were examine through rigorous dynamic simulation in scilab software environment. The set point change of flow was made based on step function. As shown in our closed loop simulation, the PI tuning parameters of controller gain Kc = 100 [L/(volt.s)] and integral time consant I = 0.01 [s] gave the smallest integral of the absolute value of the error (IAE) of about 0.0006 L/s. This study revealed that the proposed flow control configuration with its tuning parameters gave a stable response to a change in its set point.
