Abstract

Bamboo is one type ofgrass which is part ofnon-timberforest products. The chemical propertiesofhamhoo contain ofcelhtlose, lignin. pentosan. ash. andsilica. To make tarfrom betung bamboo it is necessary to go through a pyrolysis process Pyrolysis is a process of thema/ decomposjtton carrted out m an lnert condJtton. In lhlS study ttstng theJast pyrolysts method where jhe matn product is tar white charcoalandnon-eondensable gasare byproduct. Tarstartproduclng at low temperatnre and ended at temperature above 600OC because of secondary reaction mechamsm 'hat cause tar starr to decompose to gas and charcoal. TIIis study using 500 oc to 9000C with. I hourand 3 hou rs temperatureproce.fi condition. The optimum mass resultoftar reached at I hour 6000Cis 19.2420gram white at 3 hours 600 0Cis 13.1972 gram. Based on this research, it can be concluded thal lower temperatureprocess prodttced more tar and higher lemperuturv process decjease mass of lur pjuducvd, in ihis case ihe optimum letnperaiure bctung bamboopyrolysis reached at 6000C.
