Abstract

Processing of corrosive, flammable and toxic produced fluids is a major hazard in the geothermal industry. Acidic carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulfide gases, when dissolved in produced steam, can give rise to significant corrosive damage unless their action is monitored, controlled and managed. Corrosion problems in the geothermal industry can be eliminated and predicted for production, processing and plant facilities which are areas of interest in design, installation, operation and maintenance. This paper proposes to give a clear understanding of management and operational aspects for the geothermal industry on corrosion problems, with the goal of achieving thorough and industry wide improvement in corrosion management practices based on Corrosion Management Technology. Corrosion Management Technology has a progressive framework that is compatible with the requirements of risk and safety management system concerned with ensuring the integrity of operating and processing equipment. Furthermore, as the integrity management process also covers other integrity risks and causes of failure and damage that may cause hazards. The policy that will be created provides a structured framework for identification of risks associated with corrosion, and the development of a performance operating system including corrective actions with the targets of optimization and efficiency in the geothermal industry.
