Abstract
ABSTRACT Kulonprogo Hills is located in the Kulonprogo Region, DIY province. This area is predominantly composed of Tertiary volcanic rocks, with hilly topography, and is dissected by relatively dense joint networks. In this area, people generally use spring to fulfil their freshwater need. Non-homogenous, nonisotropic, and complex pattern of topography or joint network can be classified as fractal geometry. These geologic factors basically trigger the occurrence of landslide. In Kulonprogo Area, fault and joint networks show various fractal dimensions, and their distributions can be delineated into four zones, i.e. Zone A with fractal dimension D < 1.409, Zone B with fractal dimension 1.410 < D < 1.609, Zone C with fractal dimension 1.610 < D < 1.809, and Zone D with fractal dimension D > 1.810. When these zones are overlain to zones of slope distributions, new zones of landslide potential locations are obtained Key words: fractured aquifer, springs, volcanic rocks, joints
