Abstract

ABSTRACT The political crisis and a prolonged war in Middle East countries becomes the cause of the refugee crisis that occurred in Europe during the year 2015 to mid-2016. The tiny nation of Slovenia affected by opened its borders to become the transit line for refugees heading to Germany as the main destination countries of refugees. To cope with the refugee flow, Slovenia has its own policy through internal policies and external policies. Internal policy is to create a strategy, response and priorities in addressing the refugee flow, besides that Slovenia has a migration policy to address and manage the incoming refugees in Slovenia. The Government of Slovenia has also amend the State Defence laws as a legitimate legal basis as a mandate to Slovenia's army to help police forces on the border of Slovenia and Croatia. External policy with regard to regional and international cooperation aimed at providing relief funds and humanitarian aid as well as supervision in refugee camps and along the border of Slovenia and Croatia. In terms of border security, Slovenia apply rules and a system that applies in the European Union and the Schengen zone.
