Abstract

ABSTRAK Penderitaan dan rasa tidak aman yang dirasakan manusia di dunia akibat dari adanya perang menimbulkan perhatian dari berbagai pihak yang menginginkan terciptanya perdamaian. Salah satunya adalah dari produk Axe. Wujud perhatian dari Axe ditunjukkan melalui iklan dari produk baru yang diluncurkannya yakni Axe Peace. Pada skripsi ini penulis ingin mengetahui representasi perdamaian yang muncul dalam iklan Axe Peace "Make Love, Not War" yang sebelumnya iklan-iklan Axe selalu mengeksploitasi tentang sensualitas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan mengenai makna simbol-simbol, motif-motif, dan representasi perdamaian yang muncul dalam iklan Axe Peace "Make Love, Not War". Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis semiotik Roland Barthes. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah representasi perdamaian digambarkan dari negara-negara yang dianggap sebagai negara berpotensi mengancam perdamaian dunia, antara lain Rusia, Korea Utara, Vietnam dan Iran yang kemudian memunculkan simbol-simbol yang digunakan untuk merepresentasikan perdamaian antara lain pelukan sebagai tanda persatuan, peletakan senjata sebagai tanda berhentinya penindasan, gambar hati sebagai tanda bahwa seseorang yang memiliki perasaan dapat menghilangkan aksi tidak berperikemanusiaan, dan kembang api sebagai tanda suka cita berakhirnya konflik di dunia ini. Axe bekerjasama dengan organisasi Peace One Day melalui iklan Axe Peace "Make Love, Not War" memiliki motif yakni berharap mampu meningkatkan awareness pada masyarakat tentang International Day of Peace yang diperingati pada 21 September setiap tahunnya untuk mengingat pentingnya perdamaian. Kata Kunci: Representasi, Perdamaian, Semiotika, Iklan ABSTRACT Suffering and insecurity which are felt by the people in this world, as a result of the war, raises the attention of various parties who want to make peace. One of it is from Axe product. The form of attention of Axe advertisement is shown through the launch of its new products called Axe Peace. In this undergraduate thesis, the author wanted to find out a representation of peace that appears in the Axe Peace advertisement "Make Love, Not War" where previously, advertisement for Axe always exploits on sensuality. The purpose of this study is to explain the meaning of symbols, motives, and a representation of peace that appears in the advertisement of Axe Peace "Make Love, Not War". This research is using semiotic analysis method which belongs to Roland Barthes. The result from this study is peace that is represented by the countries which are considered to have the potential to threaten world peace; Russia, North Korea, Vietnam and Iran. Within Axe Peace advertisement "Make Love, Not War", there are symbols used to represent peace; a hug as a sign of unity, placing of a weapon as a sign of the end of oppression, the heart sign which indicates that someone who has feeling could eliminate the inhuman action, and fireworks as the sign of joy that the conflict in this world would meet its end. Axe in cooperation with the organization Peace One Day, through the advertisement Axe Peace "Make Love, Not War" have a motive that expected to raise the awareness in the community about the International Day of Peace which celebrated on September 21 every year to considering the importance of peace.
