Abstract

Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS is a global diamond trade regime which was established as an effort to reduce the issues of conflict diamond and human rights violations which occurred in the diamond mining areas. Kimberley Process is unique, because it was formed by three essential elements, namely the United Nations, the state, and NGOs as a response to the issues of the diamond as a funding source in the conflict committed by rebel forces to coup the official government. KPCS has the basic premise that diamonds can only be traded to members of the KP scheme. The KP scheme implemented diamond trade regulation which makes each participant KP scheme follow and obey the requirements specified by setting some normative standard in the diamond trade. Through this normative standard, diamonds which are produced from conflict with the violations of human rights have a low commercial value, or unsold in the market. Keywords: KPCS, conflict diamond, Kimberley Process, human rights violations
