Abstract

ABSTRAK Dalam pemilihan umum tanggal 14 April 2013, Nicolas Maduro terpilih menjadi presiden Venezuela mengantikan presiden Hugo Chavez yang meninggal dunia karena kanker. Rakyat Venezuela memilih Nicolas Maduro dari Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) mengalahkan kandidat Henrique Capriles dari koalisi partai Mesa de la Unidad Democratica (MUD). Sejumlah perwira Angkatan Udara, Angkatan Laut, dan pasukan keamanan nasional telah ditangkap terkait konspirasi untuk menggulingkan Presiden Nicolas Maduro. Tokoh militer pro-pemerintah telah memberitahu badan intelijen nasional bahwa “sesuatu yang aneh” direncanakan oleh sekelompok perwira, dan oleh karena itu konspirator telah diawasi oleh pihak berwenang selama beberapa waktu. Upaya destabilisasi direncanakan terjadi pada tanggal 20 Maret 2014 dengan operasi udara dan pemberondongan tentara untuk menciptakan “kebingungan” dan “bentrokan”. Plot juga merencanakan pembunuhan pemimpin protes Leopoldo Lopez dan kemudian menyalahkan pendukung pemerintah atas tindakan tersebut untuk memprovokasi upaya kudeta. Venezuela telah mengalami gelombang protes antipemerintah, kerusuhan, dan barikade jalan sejak awal bulan Februari 2014 dengan menyerukan perlawanan terhadap pemerintah dalam strategi yang disebut “The Exit” yang menuntut pengunduran diri Presiden Nicolas Maduro. Pada tanggal 1 Februari 2014, Leopoldo Lopez mengajak pelajar untuk melakukan protes terhadap pemerintah dan mengaktifkan salah satu mekanisme Konstitusi, termasuk cara pengunduran diri presiden. Protes yang terjadi di Caracas menuntut pengunduran diri presiden, pembebasan tahanan politik, dan penolakan terhadap kekerasan. Sementara, di kota lainnya, protes terjadi sebagai akibat dari tingginya tingkat kejahatan kriminalitas, inflasi, dan kelangkaan barang dasar. Keberlanjutan ketidakpuasan rakyat terhadap kinerja pemerintah Nicolas Maduro mengakibatkan hilangnya dukungan terhadap pemerintah karena dianggap tidak kompeten. Kata kunci: Nicolas Maduro, Kudeta, Venezuela ABSTRACT Nicolas Maduro was elected Venezuela’s President in elections on 14 April 2013, replacing the earlier Venezuela Presiden Hugo Chavez, who died of cancer. People of Venezuela chose Nicolas Maduro from Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) as Presiden, defeat Henrique Capriles of the opposition party Mesa de la Unidad Democratica (MUD) Venezuelan military officers of different ranks have been arrested foralleged conspiracy to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro. Loyal military figures previously informed the national intelligence service that “something strange” was being planned by a group of officers, and due to this the alleged conspirators had been under observation by authorities for some time. A “destablisation attempt” was supposedlyplanned to occur on March 20, 2014 with an air operation and strafing of soldiers, among other incidents, to create “confusion” and “clashes”. A plot to kill protest leader Leopoldo Lopez and blame the act on government supporters in order to provoke a coup attempt. Venezuela has experienced a wave of opposition protests, riots and street barricades since early February 2014, after hard-liner leaders of the opposition called for resistance to the goverment in a strategy called “The Exit” to demand President Nicolas Maduro’s resignation. Opposition political leader Leopoldo Lopez says he is seeking to draw millions of Venezuelans into the streets to join protest decrying corruption, crime and shortages in a nationwide push to bring down President Nicolas Maduro’s government. From Caracas, the majority demands are the President’s resignation, the liberation of political prisoners, and the rejection of violence. From the other cities, which have suffered extremely for years from the interruption of public service and the scarcity of basic goods, the problem of soaring inflation, scarcity, and lack of water and electricity are also a central majority focus. Sustainability people’s discontent resulted in loss of support for the Government because it’s considered incompetent. Key words: Nicolas Maduro, Coup d’Etat, Venezuela
