Abstract
The high prices of fish feed manufacturer or commonly called “pellet” is a major problem for fish farmers in the Caturtunggal village, Depok, Sleman . Farmers have a way to overcome these problem which is substituting pellets with the waste of shrimp heads and entrails of fish obtained from the market. The waste must be circulated to the pool at the time to avoid putrid. In order to cope the rapid decay of waste, the farmers need an appropriate technology to process waste into pellet. This goal of this research is to design a pellet making machine for fish farmers in Caturtunggal village so that the farmers can process waste into pellet. This waste processed to be pellets will take last longer because it’s on the dry condition. The design of pellet making machine is applying the Cross (1994) stages. The Stages consist of purpose clasification, determination of the function, arrange needs, determination of the characteristics, the determination of alternatives, evaluation of alternatives, and communication. This Cross stages is expected to present in detail what the fish farmers in Caturtunggal village needs against pellet making machine. The results of this research is to create the pellet making machine that are tailored to the needs of fish farmers in Caturtunggal village. Pellet making machine is semi-automatic with the driver in the form of an electric dynamo 0,5HP power, operating independently, with a size of 83 cm x 70 cm x 90 cm. Key: decay of waste , Cross stages, pellet making mechine Tingginya harga pakan ikan pabrikan atau biasa disebut dengan pellet masih menjadi kendala utama petani ikan di Desa Caturtunggal, Kecamatan Depok, Kabaupaten Sleman. Petani memiliki cara untuk menanggulangi kendala tersebut yakni, mensubtitusi antara pellet dengan limbah kepala udang dan isi perut ikan yang diperoleh dari pasar. Limbah tersebut harus segera diedarkan ke kolam saat itu juga untuk menghindari pembusukan. Guna menanggulangi cepatnya pembusukan limbah, maka petani membutuhkan suatu teknologi tepat guna untuk mengolah limbah tersebut menjadi pellet. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang mesin pencetak pellet untuk petani ikan di Desa Caturtunggal agar petani dapat mengolah limbah menjadi pellet. Limbah tersebut apabila diolah menjadi pellet akan kering sehingga tahan lebih lama. Perancangan mesin pencetak pellet ini menerapkan tahapan-tahapan Cross (1994). Tahapan tersebut antara lain klasifikasi tujuan, penetapan fungsi, menyusun kebutuhan, penentuan karakteristik, penentuan alternatif, evaluasi alternatif, dan komunikasi. Pengaplikasian tahapan-tahapan Cross ini diharapkan dapat mempresentasikan secara mendetail apa yang menjadi kebutuhan para petani ikan Desa Caturtunggal terhadap mesin pencetak pellet. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah terciptanya mesin pencetak pellet yang disesuaikan dengan kebutuhan para petani ikan Desa Caturtunggal. Mesin pencetak Pellet ini semi otomatis dengan penggerak berupa dinamo listrik daya 0,5HP, pengoperasian secara berdiri, dengan ukuran 83 cm x 70 cm x 90 cm.
