Abstract
Pengukuran dilakukan setiap hari selama 15 hari berturut-turut. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of vegetation to improve water quality and hold sediments carried by runoff water as well as to determine the amount of erosion on the embankment. Runoff water flows from the pile to the reservoir carries sediment material which may cause sedimentation in the reservoir, thereby reducing the volume of water storage. In addition, rain water flowing on the surface of the soil embankment can become acid because of the content of acidid minerals. The method used the quantitative measurements in the field and laboratory tests (pH, Fe and Mn). It was made four (4) pieces of the storage ponds called Pool A (without vegetation), Pool B (with grass), Pool C (vegetation with 1,94% density) and Pool D (vegetation with 97,4% density) as sink of runoff water, as well as reservoir of sediments carried by runoff water when it rains. Measurements were made every day for 15 consecutive days. Selection of the location of the pool based on the type and density of vegetation. The dominant vegetation around the pond is eucalyptus saplings and reeds. Determination of the amount of erosion using USLE projection and extrapolation of primary data. The results of the laboratory test showed that vegetation could not improve water quality (pH, Fe and Mn). However, vegetation can reduce the volume of sediment carried by runoff water. The total weight of sediment in pool D is 0.039 tons, Pool B’s 0.0011 tons, Pool C’s 0.096 tons and pool A is 0.328 tons. Erosion rate at the study site was 0.26 tonnes / ha. It is suggested that the company should periodic maintenance of land and vegetation in order to lower the erosion rate and improve runoff water quality in the pile pit 3 east. keywords: runoff water, water quality, pile, vegetation, sediment, erosion
