Endapan nikel laterit merupakan suatu endapan yang memiliki nilai ekonomis yang tersebar
luas dibagian timur Indonesia khususnya Sulawesi bagian tenggara. Lokasi penelitian berada
di Pulau kabaena Desa Wulu, kecamatan Talaga Raya, Kabupaten Buton Tengah,Provinsi
Sulawesi Tenggara terdiri dari beberapa formasi salah satunya ialah kompleks ultramafik yang
terdapat beberapa perusahaan tambang yang mendiami daerah tersebut. Hal ini penting untuk
diteliti mengenai karakteristik endapan nikel laterit yang dapat digunakan untuk acuan dalam
melakukan eksplorasi maupun eksploitasi. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu
pengamatan lapangan dan analisis laboratorium (analisis petrografi dan XRF). Luasan daerah
penlitian adalah 54.03 ha didominasi dengan luasan peridotit 47.090 Ha terdiri dari harzburgite
terserpentinisasi, lherzolite terserpentinisasi dan serpentinite dengan luasan 6.139 dan satuan
sedimen antopogenik dengan luasan 0.801 Ha. dengan geomorfologi daerah penelitian terdiri
dari bentuk lahan antropogenik dengan luasan 40.023 ha, perbukitan terdanudasi dengan luasan
6.18 Ha dan lembah terdanudasi dengan luasan 7.984 Ha. Karakteristik endapan nikel laterit
ini terdiri dari profil endapan nikel dan pola distribusi unsur Ni serta unsur lainya. profil
endapan laterit terdiri dari red limoniet, yellow limonite, saprolite dan bedrock. Red limonite
terdiri dari dominasi mineral hematite dan terdapat mineral geotite serta manganese, Yellow
limonite terdiri dari dominasi mineral geotite dan terdapat mineral hematite, Saprolite terdiri
dari mineral serpentine (lizardit, antigorite dan crysotile) terdapat urat silika. Bedrock
merupakan batuan serpentinite. Distribusi unsur Ni terdapatpada zona limonit dan saprolite
berdasarkan analisis XRF sampel bor. Unsur Ni pada zona limonit memiliki kadar 0.62%
dengan ketebalan rata-rata 12.93 meter dan 0.82% pada zona saprolit dengan ketebalan rata-
rata 7.62 meter.

Lateritic nickel deposits are deposits that have economic value that are widespread in eastern
Indonesia, especially southeastern Sulawesi, The research location is on kabaena island, Wulu
village, Talaga Raya sub-district, Central Buton district, Southeast Sulawesi province,
consisting of several formations, one of which is the ultramafic complex, where there are
several mining companies that inhabit the area. It is important to study the characteristics of
nickel laterite deposits that can be used for reference in exploration and exploitation. The
methods used in this research are field observation and laboratory analysis (petrographic and
XRF analysis). The area of the research area is 54.03 ha dominated by peridotite area of 47.891
ha consisting of serpentinized harzburgite, serpentinized lherzolite and serpentinite with an
area of 6,139, sediment antropogenic area 0.801 ha. with the geomorphology of the research
area consisting of anthropogenic landforms with an area of 40,023 ha, denuded hills with an
area of 6.18 ha and denuded valleys with an area of 7,984 ha. The characteristics of these
laterite nickel deposits consist of nickel deposit profiles and distribution patterns of Ni and
other elements. laterite deposit profiles consist of red limoniet, yellow limonite, saprolite and
bedrock. Red limonite consists of hematite mineral dominance and there are geotite and
manganese minerals, Yellow limonite consists of geotite mineral dominance and there are
hematite minerals, Saprolite consists of serpentine minerals (lizardite, antigorite and crysotile)
there are silica veins. Bedrock is serpentinite rock. The distribution of Ni elements in the
limonite and saprolite zones is based on XRF analysis of drill samples. The Ni element in the
limonite zone has a level of 0.62% with an average thickness of 12.93 meters and 0.82% in the
saprolite zone with an average thickness of 7.62 meters.
