Abstract
Research carried out in order to determine the best input of fertilization technology in improving the soil quality of ex-sand mining on the growth and yield of maize.Experiments conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, soil type Regosol Volcanic Ash taken from the village Sidorejo,Kemalang, Klaten, from June 2009 until April 2010.The experiment was conducted using a completely randomized design with fertilization technology input that is: without treatment(control), fertilized N (400 kg urea/ha),fertilized NPK (400 kg Urea, 200 kg SP36,100 kg KCI/ha), manure(10 tons/ha), fertilized N (300kg/ha Urea)+5 tons/ha manure. Soil Quality Index (SQI) calculated with the equation developed by Larson and Pierce (1996), namely: SQI=f(l1._In).The results showed that in the growing season the first year with some fertilization technology input has not shown improvement in soil quality and yield of maize, but Nitrogen fertilization + manure showed the growth of sweet corn is best Assessment of soil quality can be used as a reference for the land management. The various model equations appropriate SQI calculation is: Index 2 = {(OM X Aggregation X Permeability X Porosity)/BD} X pH X N X CEC X P X K
