Abstract

This presentation begins with an overview of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity (VUCA) as current industry challenges, sustainability, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Then proceed with the organizational capacity established by VUCA and culture and organizational learning in the VUCA Environment, and how to counter VUCA with critical strategies for business. The main discussion is about production planning and inventory control (PPIC) in the VUCA Environment and VUCA from an academic lens. This presentation concluded that VUCA, sustainability, and IoT are new norms in business, and organizations must make strategies to tackle such issues. VUCA can be used as a method for altering the traditional PPIC. Postponement, flexibility, collaboration, ICT, and risk management are dynamic, adaptive, and responsive strategies to overcome VUCA in an industrial environment. From a theoretical point of view, enhancing the teaching-learning process, up-skilling the faculty members, enhancing students' attitudes and participation, and upgrading the curriculum and facilities are strategies that can be applied in engineering institutions in the VUCA environment.
