Abstract

This presentation discusses the evolution of Miftahul Jannah Waste Bank (MJWB), a Community-Based Solid Waste Bank built at The Quran Education Park (Taman Pendidikan Al-Quran, TPA) Miftahul Jannah. TPA Miftahul Jannah is a non-formal religious education in Indonesia located at 14th Hamlet, Sonosari Village, Tegaltirto, Berbah, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region. The MJWB was built in 2014. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of waste was donated by the owner of the waste to support the operational funds of the TPA. Along with the increasing welfare of the parents of TPA students, since 2018, the MJWB was reverted for community social fund needs such as helping cover costs for sick residents, supporting community social activities, and others. In addition, the MJWB that TPA students initially managed has since been managed by PKK, a family empowerment and welfare movement organization managed by and for the community, whose members are all women. The evolution of MJWB shows the sustainability of the waste bank in Sonosari village. The waste bank has produced sustainable results, which include improving the quality of education, environmental quality, and the welfare and empowerment of housewives, which have the potential to contribute to achieving the SDGs. Factors that influence the success of MJ-SWB include leadership, professionalism, continuous improvement, and local community participation and cooperation.
