Abstract
aa n . n ani uban and Longevity of Maize Mosaic Virus Vector on Weed for Food Self
ufficiency Rea ization In Indonesia. Maize production is hampered by maize mosaic virus
disease caused by Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV), Maize Dwarf Mosaic Virus (MDMV) and
Sugarcane Mosaic Virus (SCMV). Virus spread primarily by insect vectors of cor leaves
aphids, Rhopalosiphum maydis (Fitch). Various species of weeds in fields of corn could be
expected to serve as altermate hosts. In order to complete the integrated mosaic virus disease
control programs, research ori the preference of insect vector of maize mosaic virus in various
species of weed is reguired. Five dominant weeds gained from vegetation analysis Were
randomly arranged in circular fashion inside the nylon mesh cage, and 100 R. maydis adulfts,
which previously starved for 24 h, were released in the middle arena. The position and number
of R. maydis were recorded 24 h after released and then every 48 h for seven days. Analysis of
variance and DMRT were done on data. Most of R. maydis stayed for feeding on Eleusin indica
(58.474), significantly different to Digitaria adsendens (29.2696), Cyperus rotundus (14.269),
Ageratum conyzoides (096), and Cieome rutidosperom (0 4).
