Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the proper application time and rate of oxyfluorfen
herbicide to suppress weed growth in mungbean crop to maximize crop growth and yield. Theresearch was done in August to October 2005 in Gupolo Vilage, Cucuan Sub-district of
Prambanan, Klaten Regency. Soil type of the area is regosol with approximate altitude 10 m abovesea level. The research was a field experiment laid out in randomized complete block evaluating
three rates of herbicide application: 0.24, 0.48 and 0,72 kg b.a/ha applied right after land
preparation, two or four days later. Variables observed vegetation analysis, total weed dry matterplant height. seed number per plant, 100-seed weight, seed yield per plant, seed yield per samplplot of size 2.5 m
2
and seed yield per unit area. Data collected were subjected to an analysis of
variance at 5% significance level, followed by Duncan's New Multiple Range Test. The resulshowed that oxyluorfen suppressed weed growth in mungbean crop, and thus led to an increase of
mungbean seed yield. Rate and time of application did not matter with respect to plant height, butthey significantly affected other variable under consideration. Oxyfluorfen al 0,48 kg b.a/ha should
be applied two days after land preparation. Interaction between rate and application time of
herbicide was detected with respect to total weed dry matter at 30 days after planting and 100-seed
weight.
