Abstract
An experiment to determine degradation rate and persistence of metolachlor herbicide i various rates on soil due to application of various organic matters was conducted on Entiso from November 2003 to March 2004 at Belonggandu, Jatisari, Kerawang,West Java,17 n asl. The experiment used the Split-plot design with three replications. The main plot was th organic matter (without organic matters, straw compost, cow manure fertilizer, and water hyacinth compost). The sub plot was metolachlor herbicide rate (1 kg ha' a.i, 2 kg ha' a. and 3 kg ha-1 a.i). Analysis of herbicide concentration on soil was determined using Hig Performance Liguid Chromatografi (HPLC). The result of the experiment indicated that th degradation rate of metolachlor in without organic matter, rice straw compost, cow manur compost and water hyacinth compost were 1.0263 μg kg' day',1.0147 μg kgday 1.0242 μg kg'day', and 1.1212μg kg' day'. The highest persistence of metolachlor wa detected in rice straw compost, followed by water hyacinth compost, cow manure and witho organic matter.
