Abstract

Tradilional mmmg which is conducted by the people of Wonocolo Village, Kecamatan Kedewan, Kabupaten Bojonegoro absorbed many local workers. After being abandoned by Dutch Colonial Government, the wells at Wonoco/o were exploited by the locals zmtil present times. This study aims to identify the economic potential of the local people at Wonocolo. Data were collected from the local people and government with
interview and other documentation. Result shows that the background of traditional oil mining based on the fact that people operated the old wells because of the oil price
booming in 1970s. They initially conducted traditionally but in the 1980s people started lo use machines. Oil mining is more profitable than the agricullllre. The government
joined with Pertamina then started a program called Petroleum Geheritage to develop other potential, which is tourism. The program is expected to raise the income for Lhe
local people and shift their dependency on oil mining.
