ABSTRAK
Penyelundupan narkoba yang dilakukan oleh kartel narkoba dan aktivitas
kejahatan merupakan permasalahan yang sudah terjadi selama beberapa dekade di
Meksiko. Tindak kejahatan yang dilakukan oleh kartel sangat memengaruhi
keamanan nasional dan keselamatan masyarakat Meksiko. Peran presiden dalam
membawa pemerintahannya sangat penting untuk menangani permasalahan ini.
Dalam kurun waktu 2012 hingga 2018 Enrique Peña Nieto selaku Presiden
Meksiko memberikan upaya-upayanya yang dilakukan sesuai dengan konsep
keamanan nasional dan kerjasama internasional. Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk
mengetahui upaya-upaya apa saja yang dilakukan oleh Presiden Enrique Peña
Nieto untuk menangani permasalahan kartel narkoba di Meksiko. Metode yang
digunakan adalah library research, dan menggunakan teknik analisa data
kualitatif-deskriptif.
Kata kunci: Enrique Peña Nieto, kartel narkoba, Meksiko, Mérida Initiative.

TO COMBAT DRUG CARTELS IN MEXICO
ABSTRACT
Drugs smuggling and trafficking that had been done by the drug cartels and their
crimes are problems that have been rooting in Mexico for decades. The crimes
directly really affected the national security and the citizen’s safety. In this case,
how the president brings the government is very important. At the 2012-2018
range of time, Enrique Peña Nieto as the president of Mexico has already done his
efforts that are according to the national security and the international cooperation
concepts. The thesis aims to know the Enrique Peña Nieto’s efforts in order to
handle drug cartels problems in Mexico. This thesis is using library research
method and qualitative-descriptive analytical techniques.
