Abstract

Earthquake is one among natural disasters namely volcano’s eruption, tsunami, floods, droughts etc. No one, nor the equipment that can predict when the earthquake will happens. Indonesia’s territory located in the lines of the junctions between Eurasia plate and Indoaustralia plate that caused Indonesia have a lot of earthquake lines, spreads from Sumatera to Papua. The earthquake was happened in Bantul regency Yogyakarta Province in May 26th, 2006. No one can stop the earthquake. We can only decrease the damage and aware to the impact of it. This research aims to give knowledge to the community whose lives in the area nearest to the natural disaster. So the area of study of this research is in Potrobayan the 2006 Bantul earthquake epicentrum. Management on disaster is needed for reduce the damage. Planning, Organizing, actuating and controlling as management functions is needed to make good preparatioan before disaster and to make quick operation in emergent time after disaster. The data collected by Focus Group Discusion. The result is that people in the area of study are still less in their awareness of disaster. It shows from the lay out of their furniture in their houses and in the offices. The tables are low and the surface made of glass. The routes are narrow, not available for evacuation’s line. They’ve never been learned by the local government whose in charge (BPBD). That is why disaster management was given and one team rescue was establihed in order to maintain the coordination between the community and the BPBD.
