Abstract

Coal to/llng as coot industry waste has low colorific volut with high concentration cf sulfur and ash. Onc of the methods to rcducc sulfur content and to increase its caloric value is flotation. Flotation is process of separating component in the solid phase using bubble in the liquid phase by altering surface properties cf the component. Surfactant utilized in flotation process con provide hydrophobic and hydrophillc tails so it con lower the surface tension in liquid phase, hence it Wilf ease the removal of sulfur and ash from coal toiling. In this study, flotation experiments using biosurfoctant from Lerok (Sopindusrarok De Candote)were conducted. mosurfoctant were used to minitnåe• pot;utj0f). Optimum condition were obtain at flotation time 60 minutes, oitflowrote 0 7640 L/mjn, and volume ratio of coal tailing and Lerak 4:1. The total sulfur were removed up to 56.78% and its calorific volue were increased from 4748.38 to 5379.41 colories/grnm. Thr roqult obtained indicate that terak can he osed as o potential surfactant to enhance coal tailing quality via flotation. Kata kuncl: Coals Tall, flotation, lerak (Biosurfoctant), calorific value
