Abstract

Border tourism is an alternative tourism that can be an effort for the development and improvement of border community welfare. Border tourism can be initiated by considering the potential and existing activities in the border region of the country. Sota, beside a state border area, also became a traditional cross-border trade area as well as transit areas between districts. These can be an embryo for developing Sota as a center of economic activity. As a center of economic activity, Sota can be encouraged by improving the quality and facilities of public services along with increasing the types and volume of merchandise. In some cases on developing state border found that the growth of economic activities on the border can be a pull factor on tourist visits other than natural conditions and the uniqueness of the region as a state border. Using qualitative methods based on field surveys and interviews, this article believes that increasing the types and volume of trade, including local products, as well as improvements to public facilities and services in order to make Sota a center of economic activity can drive border tourism in Sota. Improving border tourism will further enhance the welfare of local communities. Keywords: Border Tourism, Economic Activity Center, Traditional Cross Border Trade
