Abstract
Water is a natural resource that is very important for human life. However, not all water sources can be used safely, only tasteless (fresh) water can be consumed or used. The largest source of fresh water that is used by humans and which is quite easily accessible is groundwater. Groundwater conditions in each region will vary depending on several influencing factors. One of the groundwater conditions that occurs is a brackish taste as found in the Cawas District and its surroundings, KlatenRegency, Central Java. This study aims to see the distribution of brackish groundwater traps and the types of rock beds in the area. The method used is the VES geoelectric method (Schlumberger konfiguration) which is processed using IP2WIN software. After carrying out the geoelectric estimation, an analysis of the quality of groundwater in the area is carried out.The results showed that there was a brackish groundwater trap with a resistivity value of 0 -3 Ωm to a depth of> 15 meters. This water with a salinity valueof 1 -2.19 ‰ is the result of trapping Pliocene seawater during the Pleistocene Periodwhich is contained in the claystone. Above this layer of brackish groundwater, fresh groundwater is found with a resistivity value of 20 -50 Ωm at a depth of 7 -15 meters. The existence of this fresh water under fresh water is due to the presence of brackish water density greater than fresh water, brackish water has a density value of 1.03 g / cm3, while fresh water has a density of 1.0 g / cm3. The depth and thickness of brackish or fresh groundwater varies from place to place due to the morphology of the genesis Keyword: brackish groundwater, connate water, geoelectric method, IP2WIN, claystone, quality testing, salinity
