Abstract

Abaca is a banana plant producing high-quality fiber that is used as raw material for various industrial needs such as textiles, paper and even automotive. High quality banana seeds can be propagated by applying one of the tissue culture and acclimatization technologies in the final stages. The objective of this research is to figure out the interaction between growing media and the length of shelter time, also to figure out an appropriate medium that should be used and how long the best duration of shelter time for the success of acclimatization of abaca Banana. First factor is growing media, they are Compost + Sand , Compost + Husk Charcoal , Sand + Husk Charcoal , and Sand + Husk Charcoal + Compost . The second factor is the length of shelter time (10 days, 20 days, and 30 days). The result of this research shows that there is no interaction between growing medium and the length of shelter time of banana towards the accreation of plaintain on acclimatization stage. The best growing media for acclimatization Abaca Banana is the composite between Compost and Husk Charcoal and the length of shelter time for 20 days where gives a better result for number of leaves, root length, number of roots and root volume. Keywords : Acclimatization, abaca, Growing Media, Shelter Time.
