Abstract

The application of bio-surfactants in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is increasingly being used because it is environmental friendly compared to chemically synthesized surfactants. Bio-surfactants work to reduce the interface tension so that it can be applied in increasing petroleum recovery. Another advantage of bio-surfactant is that it can reduce oil viscosity at reservoir temperatures, lower toxicity levels and have higher biodegradation rates. This research was conducted on KW-58 Well oil sample with various bio-surfactant concentrations. In laboratory tests, the parameters of viscosity and Interfacial tension (1FT) will be measured. Viscosity shows changes in the phase and composition of medium oil and Interfacial tension {1FT) shows that bio-surfactants can reduce the interfacial tension between water-oil. The purpose of this study is to provide a general description of the application of bio-surfactants as a good and feasible alternative to expensive chemical surfactants in increasing optimum oil recovery. Keywords: Bio-surfactant, chemical injection, medium oil.
