Abstract

Kata kunci: edamame, jenis mulsa, waktu pemangkasan pucuk iv The Growth and Yield of Edamame (Glycine Max L. Merrill) Plant in Various Types of Mulch and Shoot Pruning Time By: Ika Hardiyan Suryaningsih Supervised: by Sumarwoto, PS. and Suyadi ABSTRACT Edamame (Glycine max L. Merill) is one of bean types and is included in the category of vegetable plants that has high nutritional value, larger beans, sweeter taste, and softer texture than common soybeans. Intensification of edamame cultivation by using mulch and shoot pruning to increase crop yields. The study was aimed to determine the best type of mulch and pruning time for edamame’s growth and yield. The study was conducted in June - August 2019 in Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The experimental design used a two factor (3 x 3) + 1 Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 times replication. The first factor is the type of mulches, namely black silver plastic mulch, straw mulch, and rice husk mulch. The second factor is the shoot pruning time, namely pruning 25 days after planting, 30 days after planting and 35 days after planting, and the treatment without mulch and without pruning as a control plot. The results showed that the highest edamame growth and yield was found in the treatment of black silver plastic mulch in increasing the number of productive branches, number of filled pods, weight of filled pods, and percentage of filled pods. Black silver plastic mulch also increased fresh weight of stover per plant but did not significantly different from straw mulch treatment. Pruning time of 35 days after planting gave the best result on the parameters of empty pod weight per plant and the percentage of empty pod. There was an indication on between type of mulches and pruning time to the weight of filled pods per hectare, especially in application of black silver plastic mulch and pruning 35 days after planting. Keywords: edamame, mulch type, shoot pruning time
