Abstract

Rock drilling is the first step in blasting activity in order to provide blast hole. Based on that fact, rapid provision of blasting hole will affect the operation of the blasting. Otherwise, the rapid provision of blast hole is affected by geological formation which characteristic of limestone in Sentolo Formation is different from Oyo Formation and also Wonosari Formation. So it is necessary to do research in the laboratory to determine the correlation of the test data by drilling rate index as a parameter of the rock drillability. Laboratory tests is conducted to obtain the composition of rock mineral, density, water content, porosity, void ratio, point load index, ultrasonic velocity, unconfined compressive strength, tensile strength, peak cohesion, peak friction angle, brittleness test S20 and Siewers J value (drill test). The obtained data correlated and analyzed to determine the effect of the geological formation to the drilling speed of limestone with Drilling Rate Index parameter. Based on the test result of the testing fo SJ value and brittleness test obtained results drilling rate index limestone in Sentolo Formation is 66,93, Wonosari Formation is 35,59, and Oyo Formation is 32,83. Smaller the value of drilling rate index means more difficult for rock to be penetrated by drill bit. For this reason, limestone in Oyo Formation is the most difficult to be penetrated than other both formation. From the mechanical properties test of limestone as unconfined compressive strength, point load index, ultrasonic velocity, tensile strength, peak cohesion, and peak friction angle of limestone defines that the higher value of unconfined compressive strength, point load index, ultrasonic velocity, tensile strength, peak cohesion, and peak friction angle then the less drilling rate index of the rock.
