Abstract
World Cup is the biggest competition in football’s world. This thesis discusses the use of
World Cup 2018 as one of diplomacy to improving the image of Russia, both internationally or
domestically. This thesis is using the method of qualitative, with the writing’s method is analysis
descriptive. Author finds the role of World Cup 2018 as follows: Developing the Russian’s image,
giving a positive impression to Russia, putting forward the sense of Russian’s passion and
hospitality, and national pride. Russia attract the atention, building a friendly and opened
impressions, and performing their strategies during the World Cup. However, still needs a step to
improve their image for a consistent and continously to strenghten and upgrading Russia’s position
in global compete.
