Abstract

Dusun Nglenggong, Jendi Village, Selogiri Subdistrict, Wonogiri Regency, Central Java Province is a hamlet with the majority of the community working as traditional gold miners. Gold mining activities are carried out on the yellow randu hill. Gold mining activities include ore mining, ore grinding, ore removal, and ore processing. Gold mining activities are carried out with traditional tools and resources. As a result, the negative impact of gold mining cannot be avoided, starting from the miner's occupational safety health to environmental pollution. The research aims to identify the impacts on water, land, land, and occupational safety health resulting from gold mining activities, identify appropriate methods to reduce the impact caused, and calculate the effectiveness of the electrocoagulation method to reduce pollutant levels. The method used is survey method and impact identification, purposive sampling method based on mining activities, mathematical and laboratory analysis methods, and descriptive analysis methods. Every mining activity is carried out to identify impacts by making a matrix identifying the impact on environmental components. One of the impacts on the environment is the disposal of gold processing wastes containing mercury, so the researchers made an installation experiment to reduce the impact of pollution in the form of electrocoagulation units. The results showed that mining activities had the impact of the risk of high occupational accidents related to the safety of miners due to incorrect mining techniques such as not using personal protective equipment, uncontrolled wind blowers, small mine pits, porous support using porous wood, and land damage around mine pits due to mine excavation not being placed with special land. There is another impact in the form of pollution due to the processing of gold which is discharged directly into the environment. Impact reduction methods include the use of personal protective equipment, mining technical compliance such as the Minister of Environment Regulation No. 23 of 2008 concerning Technical Guidelines for Pollution Prevention and / or Environmental Damage due to People's Gold Mining. The effectiveness of the best electrocoagulation method is to use a 12 V voltage variation and a 45 minute contact time using a 4x8x0.03 cm aluminum plate and a building volume of 3.7 liters. Keywords: Conventional Civil Gold Mining, Environmental Impact, Electrocoagulation
