Abstract
Abstract In Indonesia, political education is often understood partially to the size of its quantitative voter participation rates. Political education can not be interpreted solely on the use of the voting rights or the democratic party elections. Political education is essentially a long- term process towards the realization as active citizens in the process of nation building. In this kind of concept, the community and state will become a strong pillar of democracy. One of the objectives of political education is an early voters group, this group should not have a definite orientation of political choices and often become the target of election contestants. Misconception of their political understanding eventually make them became passive group at any stage of political process. In the process of political education toward early voters, one of which has a strategic position is opinion leaders, who are groups of people that have more knowledge than other community groups. Karang Taruna at Minggir village, Sleman regency become one of the opinion leaders in the political education process because they are actively involved in the electoral process and rural development planning process and Karang taruna activist are acting as the spearhead of this political education at local level.
