Abstract

ABSTRACT
The research aims to obtain the right type of mulch and organic fertilizer to increase the
growth and yield of eggplant plants, and to find out whether there is an interaction between
the type of mulch and organic fertilizer that can increase the growth and yield of eggplant
plants. The research was conducted in June 2018 - August 2018 at Wedomartani Garden,
Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta. Regosol
soil type at an altitude of ± 114 masl. The experimental design used (Split Plot Design)
Divided Plots is arranged in a Complete Randomized Block Design (RAKL). As the main
plot or main plot is the type of mulch, while as a sub plot or subplot is a type of organic
fertilizer. The data of the observations were analyzed for diversity at the level of 5% and to
find out the differences between treatments carried out further tests using DMRT (Duncan’s
Multiple Range Test) level of 5%. The results showed that the treatment of mulch and organic
fertilizer did not significantly affect plant height, leaf area, root volume, plant dry weight,
stem diameter. The results showed that the treatment of mulch and organic fertilizer had
interactions with the number of fruits (per plant), fruit weight (per fruit), fruit weight (per
plant), fruit length, and fruit diameter. The combination treatment of straw mulch and cow
manure provided the best fruit yields among other treatments.
Keywords: Types of organic mulch, organic fertilizer, Eggplant
