Abstract
During five recent years, the poverty rate in Special Region of Yogyakarta ( DIY ) is higher than the national rate. Severity index and the depth of poverty is likely to increase. Inequality in income is also likely increasing. At tehe macro level, the local government has been working to increase economic growth so that development can be enjoyed by the community, including the poor. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between economic growth and the poverty in DIY . The result of this study showed that there is a positive relationship between economic growth and poverty in DIY, but the relationship is not strong. The economic groth in DIY is less sensitive than poverty rate. Required evaluation of macroeconomic policies in DIY so that economic growth be beneficial to the poor.
