Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this experiment was determine the Dieffencbhacia growth responses to the nitrogen fertilizer and shade intensity. The experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Wedomartani, Sleman, Yogyakarta Province, during the period of August up to December 2003. Afactorial experiment of 4 x 4 factors was employed, where the treatments were arranged in Split Plot Design with 3 replication. The main plots were shade intensities consisted of 4 levels namely: no shade (0%), shade intensity 25%, shade intensity 50% and shade intensity 75 %. The sub plots were nitrogen dosages, consisted of 4 levels namely: no fertilizer, 2g, 4g, and 6g/pot. The result showed that: (1) interaction between shade intensities and nitogen dosagess gave a significant effect in the plant growth, (2) shade intensity 50 % and 75% with nitrogen 2g better in the lenght of Dieffenbachia root (3) Shade intensity 75% with nitrogen 2,48g gave sum of leaves 19,96 (4) Shade intensity 50% with nitrogen 2g gave dry weight of the plant and weight of the roots better than other treatment.
