Abstract
Japan is an advancing country that implies an unique strategy to reach its progress. "Eastern Ethics, and Western Science" is a term to show the strategy of modernization of Japan. Actually, this contradiction can be found in other fields of life. Politically, japan implies not only democratic system but also imperial tradition. Culturally, liberal and "Asian" tradition is mixed in daily life. The contradiction is also can be found in japan's Mass media system. On one hand, the principal offreedom of the press is recognized by constitution. On the other hand, tradition and the value of the culture influence the mass media. The media, life is very dynamic and commercialized, but its system is very close with various interests. This article analyzes the mass media sistem of japan, and shows the relations of sub sistem s that build the sistem , such as: media industry, mass media law and ethics, media workers, and the relationship between mass media and government.
