Abstract
Traditional mining which is conducted by the people of Wonocolo Village, Kecamatan Kedewan, Kabupaten Bojonegoro absorbed many local workers. Afer being abandoned by Dutch Colonial Government, the wells at Wonocolo were exploited by the local until presents times. This study aims to identify the economics potential of the local people at Wonocolo. Data were collected from the locel people and government with interview and other documentation. Result shows that the background of traditional oil mining based on the fact that people operated the old wells because of the oil price boomings in 1070s. they initially conducted traditionally but in the 1980s people started to use machines. Oil mining is more profitable than the agriculture. The governmnet joined with Pertamina then started a program called Petroleum Geheritage to develop other potential, which is tourism. The program is expected to raise the income for the local peole and shift their dependency on oil mining. Keywords: Wonocolo, traditional oil mining, tourism.
